Orange signs deal with OpenAI for access to pre-release AI models

Orange has entered into a multi-year partnership agreement with OpenAI in Europe that will give the French telecom operator access to pre-released artificial intelligence models.Orange will be the first European telecom company to have direct access to OpenAI models.

The models are served by a secure infrastructure hosted in Europe, and more than 50,000 Orange employees currently use OpenAI models. orange announced Tuesday that it has signed a deal with Meta and OpenAI to translate African regional languages for the telecom group.

The vendors will share data samples from Wolof and Pular to train Llama and Whisper, the Meta and OpenAI Large Language Models (LLMs), respectively, which Orange will use to incorporate the languages into its customer support, as well as outsourcing the models to non-commercial customers such as governments, universities and startups.
