Microsoft denies using user data to train artificial intelligence models

Microsoft has denied claims that user data from Microsoft 365 apps, including Word and Excel, is being used to train artificial intelligence models. This comes after a number of users took to social media to point out that Microsoft was asking users to opt out of the Connected Experience feature, which they believed was being used to train AI models. Microsoft does not use customer data from Microsoft 365 consumer and business apps to train underlying large-scale language models. “Connected Experience” supports features like co-authoring and cloud storage, and has nothing to do with how the company trains large language models.

People are still concerned that their data could be used to train AI models without their permission.
